Aromatology:the scope of our practice

The aromatic journey begins by staking out the boundaries that define what lies within the aromatherapist’s field of influence and recognition of what lies beyond our scope.

When we explore the territory of aromatic medicine we embrace the responsibility  of what lies beyond our capabilities as aromatic practitioners.

My teacher, Jade Shutes, sets forth the following mantra which I espouse as my own :

I support health and wellness

I do not treat disease
I do not practice medicine
— Jade Shutes

Although essential oils have undoubtable value to enhance wellbeing, it would be unethical and even illegal to presume that these can in any way replace the necessity to seek  professional medical advice for specific health concerns.

What is and what is not

Defining the area of competence for my practice is part of the following mission statement

  • As an aromatic science therapist I am not a medical professional

  • As an aromatic science therapist I cannot and do not offer diagnosis nor prescribe treatments for health conditions.

  • As an aromatic science therapist the scope of my practice remains within the boundaries of recommendations and support for self care and everyday wellness.

Additionally,

  • the information I share in my practice, on my website and on social media is for educational purposes only.

You are responsible for your health

I believe and respect that each person is responsible and knows best what is needed for their health. However, if you do have a health concern, always consult with your medical health provider who is the most qualified to provide you with the answers you need.
